The Social Science Program in Cass School District 63 will prepare students to function as informed, global-thinking, productive citizens in an information-based society.  Social Science is the core subject of an integrated curriculum which fosters academic growth and cultural appreciation.

The Social Science Program in Cass School District 63 will prepare students to function as informed, global-thinking, productive citizens in an information-based society.  Social Science is the core subject of an integrated curriculum which fosters academic growth and cultural appreciation.

We believe that Social Science programs should include components, studies, and experiences that provide for:

  • a common core of background knowledge and skills

  • connecting the past with current events and their implications for the future

  • relationships and impacts among science, technology, and society

  • citizenship responsibilities and rights

  • an awareness of and an appreciation for cultural diversity

  • connecting social studies to all subject areas and real life experiences

  • exploring the relationships among people, places, and environments

  • appreciating individual development, identity, and diversity
