Mr. Bundy's Home Page

WELCOME TO MY HOME PAGE!

If you see me during the day, it is probably for either 7th grade math or 8th grade language arts/writing.  Please let me tell you about what we do in our classes.

In math the students start to learn how to think algebraically.  Many of the procedures that were "old hat" using numbers, now are expressed using letters.  In our class we try to emphasize that the procedure is what is the most important thing, not necessarily the answer.  Most of the errors that we see in class, happen to be small procedural errors.  I want students to feel confident about their work, and the best way that I can do that is by seeing what they have done.

Other expectations in math are that students come prepared everyday with their books and pencils.  I tell the students that we don't take big steps in math, but each of the steps is a "building block" for the next lesson as each one builds upon the next.

I continue to look forward to an exciting year and I hope to learn along with the students as we are all "lifetime learners".

For the language arts/writing classes, we do a variety of exciting writing projects that include: expository, narrative, and persuasive essays; a research paper of the holocaust; position papers on topics that directly affect the students' lives; and a poetry unit.  I try to emphasize in class, that the process is very important to a writer.  In order to be successful, we take part in a variety of pre- and post- writing activities that allow the students to reflect on their work.  Of course to help improve their writing, we also work on a variety of grammar topics that help the students create more complex sentences which will make their writing more descriptive and interesting.  I hope that all of my students feel more comfortable being able to express themselves both verbally and in writing by the end of the year.
