| Mrs.
Thill teaches 7th grade Literature and Language Arts.
Reading, writing, listening, and speaking will be emphasized in these
classes and integrated into the curriculum throughout the year.
In Literature, students use the Prentice Hall textbook, Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes, as a reference for their studies. Students complete a variety of novel studies and use ancillary materials as part of their learning. Independent reading, including book projects, is completed during the course of the year. Literature assignments include both cross-curricular projects as well as interdisciplinary units. Independent reading is a main focus in literature. It is important for students to vary the genres of literature they are reading to expose themselves to new and different materials. Students are responsible for independent reading book projects and assignments on a quarterly basis. Throughout the course of the year these book projects will focus on different genres to broaden students' reading horizons. Spelling is integrated into the existing literature curriculum using words from students' current units of study while also focusing on word entomology, exploring Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes. Both spelling and vocabulary tests will be given quarterly. Spelling will account for a portion of the literature grade.
