Mrs. Tepavchevich's Classes

Welcome to Mrs.Tepavchevich’s math page.  I teach all of the eighth grade math, algebra, and health classes.

The eighth grade math class main focus is pre-algebra skills to prepare  for the high school curriculum of algebra, geometry, and algebra trigonometry.  Students are expected to come to class prepared to work.  They receive homework every night to allow them to practice the skills taught in class.  Constant maintenance and review is provided throughout the year in order to help students remember skills learned in previous years as well as those concepts taught at different times throughout their eighth grade year.

The algebra class is taught using the same textbook that is used at Hinsdale South High School.  The concepts taught are those that are taught in the algebra classes at the high school.  At the end of the school year students in this class take an algebra proficiency test at the high school to prove their competence and knowledge of algebra.  Students in this class, who pass the algebra test, will take geometry their freshman year at the high school.

It has always been my goal to expand children’s knowledge of math concepts and to help my student’s see the relevance and usefulness of their math knowledge to real life skills

The eighth grade health curriculum includes self awareness, decision making skills, friend and family relationship skills, and knowledge of sexually transmitted diseases with an emphasis on abstinence.  During the quarter many guests speak to the students, among them representatives from Downers Township, Project AWARE, and a DARE officer.  Students also take a field trip to the Robert Crown Center to hear a presentation on HIV/AIDS.  Adolescents find themselves facing many life altering situations.  It is my hope that health class will provide factual information, and answers to their questions, in a comfortable environment, so that they will make good decisions.
