Let me take this opportunity to welcome you to Cass Junior High School.
Cass Junior High School serves students in fifth through eighth grade and is centered on a middle school philosophy. Our emphasis at Cass is looking at our students in a well-rounded manner where academics and character education get the same degree of emphasis. When students graduate eighth grade, our expectation is that they have the foundation to succeed at the high school level and be a contributing member within the society.
Students are educated in the core curricula of Math, Science, Reading, Language Arts, and Social Science. In addition, students have Physical Education, Health, Global Language, and the elective offerings of Applied Technology, Fine Arts, Journalism, Speech, and Computers. Students also have numerous opportunities for after school activities, such as Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Softball, Track and Field, Art Club, Chess, Scholastic Bowl, Science Club, Math Team, and Yearbook.
Here at Cass, the teachers require the students to work when the bell rings and to follow through on homework and projects. At home, this means asking more than just surface questions about your child's school work. Delve deeper and find out what is going on in their classrooms and what this translates to at home. Provide an environment that is conducive for school work along with providing structured time for this to occur. Provide guidance when needed so that your child knows there is help at home as well as at school. Always encourage your child to ask for clarification or assistance when it is needed.
At Cass, we ask the students to be "Warriors you should know." This means that we will ask them to exemplify the character traits that our Cass Warrior program is built upon. We will recognize them when they are showing these traits. At home, we encourage you to ask your child about these traits and to discuss what they mean to you and your family. Look for ways at home to recognize these traits as well.
One key to all of this is communication. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher if there is ever a concern. You may also contact me when there is a more general concern or question. We are here to serve the needs of the students, which means we will try to address any and all needs we can.
If there is anything that I can do to help answer any questions or address any concerns, please do not hesitate to call, email, or stop on in.
