Mrs. Schally - Art Teacher

Art is important to every student at Concord. The classes from kindergarten through fourth grade enjoy an art class every week and a Meet the Masters class once a month. We also offer a 4th grade Art Club.

My philosophy for all art classes is threefold:

  1. The students create art projects to compliment and enhance as many academic programs and units as possible. Their activities include areas of science, language arts, reading, social science and math.

  2. All classes explore the ways that art influences our everyday life and activities, including the way we dress, the things we use and where we live.

  3. Children are particularly interested in how art has evolved from cave paintings to the present day variety of artists' work. Understanding arts and artists in civilizations past and present is important to understanding and respecting other cultures.

Teaching more than 400 children is fun and challenging. Every day is a different experience. Like the children, I learn something new every day.

Meet The Masters

The children learn about the lives and works of master artists through slides, prints, props, games, dress ups and voices and music.

The program is highly motivational and age appropriate. As each student learns about an artist, they complete worksheets and file them in a portfolio, which is kept in the art room. These are taken home at the end of the year. The students create their own masterpieces during art class.

Artists for this school year are: Georgia O'Keeffe, Katsushika Hokusai, Claude Monet, Andrew Wyeth and Vincent Van Gogh.
