Fourth Grade Team

Welcome to Fourth Grade!  This year promises to be an exciting educational experience.  There are four sections of 4th grade.  Mrs. Uhlir, Mr. Shingler,  Mrs. Miller, and Miss Amato are the homeroom teachers.  Mrs. Schally, Mrs. Voss, and Mrs. Zurawski are the art, P.E., and music teachers.  Mr. Blasius  is  the band teacher.  Mrs. Scott is the Skills for Growing teacher.

Social Science is  taught by Miss Amato and Mrs. Miller.  Major topics of study include regions of the United States, learning the states and capitals of the United States, and  a comprehensive study of our own home state of Illinois.

Science is taught by Mrs. Uhlir and Mr. Shingler.  Major topics include life and physical sciences.  A science fair is held in March.

Fourth Grade wouldn't be complete without some spectacular field trips and activities:
Morton Arboretum  Illinois is the "prairie state."  Here we will see a restored prairie area.  Pioneer children once walked through similar areas on their way to school.
Robert Crown Center Located in nearby Hinsdale, this health museum is the home of "Valita", the transparent woman.  We will learn more about our body systems.
Naper Settlement   How did a DuPage County community of the 19th century  look?  We will find out.  A favorite stop is the one-room schoolhouse!
Books Alive! The ultimate literacy experience!  Concord School  students spend the day reading, writing, drawing, listening to stories.
Pioneer Day Panning for gold, participating in outside games, making yarn dolls, feasting on vinegar pie and homemade lemonade (among other food items), and playing with hand puzzles and games are only some of the activities.  We even try to dress as a pioneer child would.
