Mrs. Amy Malone, Social Worker |

|
My name is Amy Malone. I am the Social Worker at Concord and Cass Junior High Schools. Welcome to Social Work Services! I provide support services to the students, parents, and staff of Cass District #63. I am embarking on my 16th year in this district. I divide my 4 days each week in the district between both schools. I work at Concord on Tuesdays and Fridays. I work at Cass on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I serve on the multidisciplinary student support team at both schools; as a team member I help identify student needs through case study evaluations. I also provide individual and group counseling services to students who have specific needs in the social, emotional, and behavioral areas. While my focus is on special education students according to state mandates, I interface with regular education students on a daily basis. I teach two Kindergarten and four 3rd grade Skills for Growing classes weekly at Concord. I also teach Choices to 5th graders on Thursdays. My typical day varies, but it can include team meetings, parent interviews, home visits, lunch groups with students, individual and small group sessions with students, classroom observations, consultations with teachers, contacts with community agencies, and Skills for Growing classes. I love working with the students of District #63. My goal is to help students feel good about their school experience. I help students develop skills according to the Illinois State Social Emotional Standards. Specific skills worked on with students may include organization, anger management, social skills, goal-setting, school work behaviors, and problem-solving.

I am available to meet with students and parents to discuss and problem solve specific issues affecting school. I enjoy my partnership with parents and teachers to create a supportive atmosphere for student learning and development. Skills for Growing is a life skills program that is taught at every level at Concord School. In Skills for Growing classes, we teach and develop these skills: group cooperation, communication, friendship, conflict resolution and anti-bullying strategies, and decision-making. One of the last units includes lessons about our body organs, drugs that can harm our bodies, and how to make good decisions when faced with peer pressure. We always actively participate in Red Ribbon Week activities. Activities in Skills for Growing are discussion, role playing, and group cooperation games and tasks. Occasionally we do some writing and drawing in our Together Times booklets. Each class develops their own Caring Being which serve as guidelines for the classroom. I encourage students to participate actively by raising their hands, listening to each other, and practicing the skills learned through the weekly activity. Choices class is part of the 5th grade specials rotation and meets one period/day. For several weeks in Choices, 5th graders learn how to adjust to middle school and complete character education activities designed to promote positive choices within the school. In the past couple of years, we have introduced character education activities from the Don't Laugh at Me program from Operation Respect. These activities are designed to help promote a positive school climate and reduce bullying. These activities have already made a positive impact on the school climate. I am honored and pleased to be your "partner in education." CARING BEINGS ARE ALIVE IN CASS SCHOOL DISTRICT! |
