Welcome to the

Technology Corner!

Working in the computer lab is enjoyable experience for the students they create and learn in a fun and exciting environment. Listed below are some of the activities each grade includes in their lessons.

First grade starts with an introduction to computers and learns how to log-on to the network.  They then start learning to use the keyboard and mouse by using Kidspiration and integrating class room work with lessons about identifying their senses, learning the difference between needs and wants, and identifying items of food, clothing, and shelter.  Kid Pix is also used to help the children identify different items that begin with a letter of their name in the “Name Game” and an arithmetic unit that introduces additions statements, Kid Pix is one of the favorite programs in this group.

Second grade expands their keyboarding skills while also learning to insert pictures from clip art or pictures they have created in Kid Pix. They also learn about formatting a document and changing the font size and color. Some of their projects include a report on their visit to a farm, and a paper on dinosaurs where they write a paragraph in Microsoft Word and insert a picture they created using Kid Pix.

Third grade continues to build on their budding computer skills and expands the programs they use buy introducing PowerPoint and a greeting card program called Print Artist.  The children work in teams and use PowerPoint to create a presentation on spiders, complete with animation.  Print Artist is used to create holiday cards that the children take home for the Winter Holiday.

Fourth grade expands their computer knowledge by using more features of the software packages and introduces the graphing capabilities of Excel.  Each student is given a small bag of M&M candy and has to count and enter the corresponding number of red, green, blue, orange, yellow, and brown candy.  The student then creates a pie chart and bar graph of their discovery.

Working on computers is really an enjoyable experience for the students. Our computer lab is a busy, happy place where children can learn and grow!
