The F.A.R. (Fitness at Recess) program is an extension of the Concord physical education curriculum. In addition to daily physical education classes for all students in 1st through 4th grades, Concord utilizes the students' recess period by engaging them in activities that continue to develop athletic, social, and emotional learning skills. Students choose from a wide variety of individual, partner, and small group activities as well as equipment. The students learn to be self-directed and responsible for their own fitness. Students also learn conflict resolution skills that enable them to play and interact better with each other.
How F.A.R. will your child walk or jog on the Concord track? Once per week, each class is required to walk laps on the track during their recess period. The students log their laps and miles throughout the year, tracking how far they have traveled as a group. This activity encourages students to maintain their cardiovascular fitness and teaches them that even walking can help to improve their overall health and well-being. The benefits of F.A.R. are endless.
