The eighth grade math class focus is mainly on pre-algebra skills to prepare for the high school curriculum of algebra, geometry, and algebra trigonometry. Students are expected to come to class prepared to work. They receive homework every night to practice the skills taught in class. Constant maintenance and review is provided throughout the year in order to help students remember skills learned in previous years as well as those concepts taught at different times throughout their eighth grade year.
The algebra class is taught using the same textbook that is used at Hinsdale South High School. The concepts taught are those that are taught in the algebra classes at the high school. At the end of the school year, students in this class take an algebra proficiency test at the high school to prove their competence and knowledge of algebra. Students in this class who pass the algebra test will take geometry their freshman year at the high school.
It has always been my goal to expand children's knowledge of math concepts and to help my student's see the relevance and usefulness of their math knowledge to real life skills.
