The Foundation funds programs, projects, and activities that are not deemed the responsibility of District 63 and concur with District 63 Board of Education goals.

Interested in applying for a grant... next deadline is November 10, 2008!

Grants Awarded in the Most Recent Grant Cycle:

The Cass District 63 Foundation for Educational Excellence is pleased to announce that in 2008 there has been 4 GRANTS totaling $46,628 awarded.  Since 2003, your Cass 63 Foundation has awarded over $277,000 in grants to the school community!

LITERACY SUPPORT - $30,000

Literacy is the core of any elementary school.  The more fluent reader a child is, the more success that child has in all subject areas.  Any literacy support that is provided to students is a very sound investment that will pay dividends to all students by enhancing the quality of a school district’s academic climate. The intent of this grant is to fund literacy support in the form of literacy assistants (paraprofessionals) at both Concord and Cass schools. These literacy assistants are an integral part of the overall reading program and are essential to the success of all students – resulting in the district’s high academic achievement scores and awards.

CLIMBING WALL - $11,828

The purpose of this grant is to promote physical fitness through an activity (climbing) that can be used throughout the lifetime of ALL students.  A climbing wall will also provide an incredible opportunity for students to work together and as a team.  It is believed that activities that can be participated in over the course of a person’s life are of great value to a person’s health.  Thus, providing the fun experience of climbing to all students at the school and teaching them about the physical benefits of this activity will increase student awareness of the importance of participating in sports for a lifetime and may lead to a great interest in this form of exercise.  The wall has been incorporated into the curriculum for physical education courses at Cass Jr. High.

TECHNOLOGY GRANT - $5,000

Technology initiatives in Cass 63 have been frozen over the past 3 years due to the district’s financial challenges.  In hopes of keeping pace with technology in the school environment, the district has created a new technology plan to lease computers, servers and interactive white boards.  A grant was proposed to the Foundation to partner with the school district in order to provide students with the opportunity to excel within the school and ready themselves for a truly digital world.  The Foundation selected to fund the acquisition of Smart Boards.

DW FIRE PROTECTION STUDENT EDUCATION - $800

The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District has in the past provided the services of Lt. John Tabis as an instructor at Cass for grades 5, 6 and 7.  He instructs all 7th grade students in CPR techniques and the 5th, 6th and 7th graders with in home fire safety and prevention.

With repeated failures of a tax referendum proposed by the Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District, these classes cannot occur without a fee to the district.

Eligibility:
Proposals may be initiated by faculty, students, administrators, staff, parents, citizens and civic, governmental, or community organizations.
