“Where the Focus is on the Child"
Curriculum Focus
The Science Department at Cass Junior High is dedicated to delivering an inquiry- based and rigorous curriculum rooted in the Next Generation Science Standards. Embedded in all grade level courses are activities that involve higher order thinking, crosscutting and engineering concepts, and college and career readiness skills. Students at Cass will have the opportunity to experience a true laboratory setting and equipment everyday.

Fifth Grade Overview
Fifth Grade Science
Welcome to Fifth Grade and the study of Earth Science. The four main areas of Earth Science are oceanography, geology, meteorology, and astronomy. Through hands-on activities, internet research and observations of natural occurrences we will study the forces that shape the Earth, the conditions in the atmosphere, the universe beyond the Earth and the Earth's oceans.
The world around us is constantly changing. Developing an understanding of the concepts in Earth Science will assist students in interpreting new developments and technologies. -
Sixth Grade Overview
Sixth Grade Science
At Cass Junior High School, Sixth Grade Science investigates topics of physical science. Students will critically examine and experiment using technology and hands on labs regarding the topics of force, energy and motion.

Seventh Grade Overview
Seventh Grade Science
Seventh grade students will be involved in an introductory level of life science. The students will explore basic biological concepts in a laboratory setting, and they will focus on concepts that are shared by all living things such as cell structure, biochemical make-up, and inheritance. Students will also focus on the diversity of life as they classify the diverse world of living organisms into kingdoms and other classification categories.

Eighth Grade Overview
Eighth Grade Science
Eighth Grade Science at Cass Junior High consists primarily of chemistry and physical science topics. Students will be emmersed in a hands-on, lab-based curriculum throughout the entire year. Higher order thinking skills, applications to mathematical concepts, and engineering tenants are integrated throughout the year.
