    Superintendent's Welcome

  • It is a tremendous honor to serve the children, parents, faculty, staff and Board of Education as the new superintendent of Cass School District 63. For the past six months, I have had the pleasure of transitioning with Dr. Foderaro, getting to know some of our staff and learning the culture of excellence that is well-established in this great school district. Among my goals in the coming months and years are to work closely with the Board and staff to build upon the district's long history of educational excellence, keep our students and staff safe and secure, and to do whatever it takes to help our students and schools achieve at the highest possible level with total child-centered planning and commitment.
The dedication of our teachers, administrators and staff is incredible, and it is very clear why this school district maintains a stellar reputation. Building on this are our very supportive parents and local community. As educators, we know the importance of parental and community support, and this is a hallmark of Cass 63. Unlocking a child's academic potential needs to happen not only at school, but home as well. Now more than ever, we truly need the active and engaged involvement of parents in the educational process. Parents have always been and always will be their child's first teacher.
Like all school districts, we are faced with many challenges as we prepare to open the 2020-21 school year. Our leadership team is working very hard on this throughout the summer as we make plans for what the start of the school year will look like and what precautions need to be made to keep our students and staff safe. We are also seeking guidance and assistance from our Return to Learn Committee, and will be sending our parents and staff surveys by the middle of July. Please watch for this, as your responses will be very helpful in our planning.
Please keep in mind that every school and community is unique, from our building spaces and sizes, enrollments, grade level arrangements, bus routes and so on. There is much to figure out, and each school district will make their own plans in accordance with the guidance. We also fully understand that parents want more information and to make plans for how this will impact your families. At the appropriate time and as this evolves, we will communicate details and plans for the opening of the 2020-21 school year. We think it is more important to communicate accurately, rather than rush and be forced to make unforeseen changes.
Through all of this, we will maintain a positive growth mindset and will plan meticulously for the safety and welfare of our students and staff. Never hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your support of our children and our schools!
